You were born a complete vision of beauty! A pure soul, full of light, hope and willingness to experience life! Is that still you? If not then find it again, the true you – holds your inner beauty !
When we arrive in this world we are perfect, we are whole, complete and full of light. Ah, but then we get caught up in all sorts of rubbish and illusion! We are presented with ideas and examples of how we should be, so now we strive to become the perfect being to fit with our society, we become what they want us to be, and we lose site of who we really are!
We are still that glorious light, we just became disconnected and confused. Maybe we had a few bad experiences along the way and they left us wounded, but these wounds can be healed! Find that powerful inner you again and nothing will hold you back!
If you are suffering then you are attached to some sort of story, a belief that you have developed within a part of you about your self, this is not you, it is just an experience, maybe something someone told you about you, and you took this as your reality! These experiences are just lessons, we don’t need to hold on to them, they are not our reality. Our reality is our inner powerful being, our inner beauty!
How To Find The Inner You Again!
Our subconscious mind is what rules us, and it is way more powerful than our conscious mind if we allow it to be! This is where all our hurt and false beliefs live, and it keeps us back from achieving our dreams because it holds all of our doubts.
So how can we get back in control? Well this a way that I love to work with it, it is gentle, kind and loving!
Imagine this inner you that holds all your doubts and fears, is a young version of you, and you need to nurture it and reassure it that you are safe and there is no need to hold on to these old beliefs any longer. This inner you or ‘mini me’ as I like to call it, is just trying to keep you safe from any more hurt or disappointments, we just need to let this part of us know that we have grown, we did learn from the experience and we are safe now.
Imagine comforting and holding the inner you, tell him or her that you love them and they are safe!
This is how you learn to love yourself again and free yourself from any illusion of who you are. This is the inner you the beautiful strong powerful you, the real you!
To work with the inner you increases your strength and confidence, you accept your inner beauty, your light!
You are just as beautiful as the day you were born, hold this as your reality!

Chakra Number One – Root Chakra – Muladhara

The journey of healing your through our Chakras, starts with the root Chakra, called the Muladhara. Here we will discuss the effect that it has on our life, what happens when this chakra is blocked? What happens when it is in balance?
Muladhara means root or support, this is the first of our seven Chakras, the foundation for the rest of the system and is connected to mother earth, it draws its energy from the earth. This Chakra is located around the base of the spine and genital area, it sits within our energy field and draws energy from the earth into our bodies. This is why we are advised to sit properly for meditation, to sit in the correct way means the root chakra is perfectly connected to mother earth. The root chakra resonates with the colour red.
The Chakra is concerned with all of your physical needs and basic human survival, it links to gravity, constantly pulling downwards so keeping us grounded and connected to our material existence. It is about getting things done and moving forward, motivation and desire. It relates to how you feel about your body and others, your relationships, feelings and sensations in your physical body, and how you feel in the physical world. Do you feel safe and at home? Are your physical needs met? If you have relationship problems, or you feel insecure with your surroundings then you may want to work on your root Chakra.
So lets look at what happens when the root Chakra is not at its best.
If the root Chakra is in an unbalanced or unaligned state, it would cause feelings of not belonging, being in the wrong place, not feeling safe and not trusting anyone or anything around you. You would be feeling isolated and alone, not able to get things moving and cannot focus on what needs to be done. You would feel that your needs are not being met, stuck and unable to change anything. There is a huge desire to run and escape. I think we all some times make excuses, you know when you say ‘oh well if I only had the money I would’, or, ‘its not my fault I can’t do this’. This is your root Chakra out of balance! Your body will ache and you may suffer with joints and bones. The root Chakra is the foundation of your energy system so it will relate to the foundation of you physical body!
The root Chakra is about everything you are able to create and manifest in your life, we have a great idea, this is air energy, we get really excited about it, this is fire energy, now we need to ground it with earth energy for it to be complete. So think about this, if you are struggling to complete a project, then your root chakra maybe stagnant, wake it up and complete. It is through the root Chakra that we find our unique gifts, and are able to share them with the world!
So lets look at your root Chakra in balance.
When your Root Chakra is in good working order, you will feel confident, fearless and safe, you will find solutions not problems. You will feel safe in your body and in your life, you have no doubt of your abilities and you will make things happen. You will have good relationships with people and be able to trust, you will have fulfilling sexual experience because you feel completely safe in your own body, your are aware of your feelings. You will live in the present here and now, be calm serene and peaceful. You will complete projects and you will manifest your dreams. You will have strength and courage.
Through working on the Chakras we can achieve our goals. Working on the root Chakra can transform fear into courage, pain into love and pleasure, and negative feelings into positive life changing creative energy! Also By working on the root Chakra we start to create more balance through the rest of the Chakras, of course we have to work on those too, but to keep the root Chakra in balance is of prior importance. Chakra Number Two – Sacral Chakra -Svadhisthana
What is the Svadisthana, sacral Chakra? What aspects of your life does it relate to, and what do you gain by working with this Chakra?
The sacral Chakra is the second energy centre in the Chakra system and is located in the lower abdomen between the pubic bone and the navel. Svadisthana is the ancient Sanskrit name which means sweetness, relating to sweet experiences of life, pleasure, sexuality, movement and change. The Chakra resonates to the colour orange and is physically associated with the lower abdomen, so kidneys, bladder, reproductive organs, genitals and low back.
This Chakra on an emotional level, relates to love and accepting of the self, self expression, responsibility to the self and self esteem. It leads us to find pleasure in life, to be free, our true self, to have joyous trusting relationships, and to make any changes we need to make this happen.
So we will look at the sacral Chakra out of balance.
What happens when this Chakra is not working well? If the Chakra is out of balance or unaligned you could experience feelings of separation, not feeling good enough, anxious, ashamed of the body and angry with the opposite sex. You may find it hard to make decisions and feel like you are swinging from the dark to light, grand illusions one minute and no hope the next. You could be feeling oversensitive, hard on you self and feel unnecessary periods of guilt. You could also turn your back on sexual relationships.
Physically you could suffer with low back pain kidney and bladder problems and possibly fertility problems. People who have been sexually abused hold, their pain in this chakra, feeling ashamed and separated from all others, losing site of their beauty. In this case the chakra will most likely be closed. It takes a lot of courage to look beyond this and find your inner self again, but this is the chakra to help do this.
The Chakra in Balance.
So when this chakra is in balance and spinning correctly, as the name suggests you will feel that life is sweet. You will be friendly and love to share with others. You will be confident and caring, with the ability to make others feel good. Your intuition will be accurate and you will know you are making wise decisions. You will be enthusiastic about life, non judgemental, free to be yourself, and know yourself completely. You know you deserve to be happy and to be loved.
This is a beautiful chakra, when in balance you will recognise it, it is joy, just beautiful. You will be passionate for life. After working on your base Chakra you will notice a difference with this one. The base chakra has the heavier earthy drive, the sacral feels light and lifting, when in balance it just makes you smile.
I truly hope you love working with the sacral Chakra.

Using The Relaxation Response To Reduce Stress!

The American Psychological Association has just released the results of its 2010 Stress in America survey. Among the findings: Nearly 75% of Americans who responded to an online survey said that their stress levels are so high that they feel unhealthy.
To put it mildly, we are living in stressful times. The economy is still struggling, jobs don’t seem to be coming back, and the housing boom gone bust has turned into one big mortgage mess. It’s getting to the point where I don’t want to read the newspaper any more.
In an attempt to develop a more positive outlook, I recently attended a lecture by Dr. Herbert Benson. A pioneer in mind/body medicine, Dr. Benson is currently director emeritus at the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital.
I would love to say that the lecture was eye-opening, but it was really more eye-closing—and I mean that in a good way. Rather than lecture in the traditional sense, Dr. Benson gave us some tips on how to elicit the relaxation response—starting with having us close our eyes. As its name implies, the relaxation response is meant to counter the stress (or “fight or flight”) response.
First described by Dr. Walter B. Cannon at Harvard Medical School in the 1920s, the fight-or-flight response evolved as a survival mechanism. When we encounter a life-threatening situation, a surge of stress hormones prepares us to fight or to flee. As a result, our hearts pound, our muscles tense, and we are suddenly on high alert.
Unfortunately, people tend to activate the fight-or-flight response multiple times during a typical day, usually because of situations that are annoying and stressful, but not life threatening. These include traffic jams, long lines in the grocery store, or — in my case — editorial deadlines. But all those surging stress hormones can take a toll on the body. Over time, such low-grade chronic stress can lead to high blood pressure, increased heart rate, and muscle tension.
The relaxation response may help people to counteract the toxic effects of chronic stress by slowing breathing rate, relaxing muscles, and reducing blood pressure.
So how exactly do you elicit the relaxation response? There is no single method that works for everyone, and it may take some practice before you find the method that is right for you.
During the lecture I attended, Dr. Benson lead us through a series of steps designed to slowly relax our bodies and minds. First we sat in a comfortable position. Then we focused on a single word or phrase of our choosing (such as “one” or “peace” or “shalom”). We did this for 10 minutes. We practiced deep abdominal breathing while silently repeating a focus word.
Did it work? Results varied. I found it hard to settle down, although my breathing did slow a bit. But the physician sitting next to me said he felt his breathing slow considerably. And the woman on the other side of him actually fell asleep.
Given the times we live in, the relaxation response may be worth trying. If nothing else, it’s easy to do, free, and you have little to lose in trying it out.

Are you attracting your abundance into your life right now? Everyone should be able to attract perfect health, wealth and abundance at will! Abundance in all areas of your life are your right, the days of you having to struggle and work hard to survive are gone, we don’t have to believe those antiquated (although well meaning) views any more, that’s not how it is meant to be!
I want to share with you, some simple steps to help you to attract your abundance in the most natural way possible, as it should be.
You will be able to see changes happening within days. Life should not be a frustrating struggle, getting where you want to be in life is your birth right, we are all entitled to live our life in pure harmony and it is possible!
While we struggle and strive to just survive ( that’s what most of us have been programmed to believe we should be doing), we miss out on the beauty life has to offer, we simply don’t see it as we are so bogged down with worry and pain! This is not how it is meant to be, life is a school full of lessons, but the most important lesson we miss! When we are attracting abundance in our lives naturally, it is impossible not to se the beauty around us, life becomes pure joy instead of that constant struggle!
This is how it is, we attract, what we continually think about and the thoughts that have the strongest emotional charge, if we are fearful we just create more of the same! Have you ever noticed that when you are down or worried about something, it is so hard to break away from the feeling, and it is hard to turn it around? Well it is the same in reverse, if you are happy and feeling positive, the feeling keeps growing and you draw more of the same, this is when the magic happens and you attract good things naturally into your life, you cant avoid this it is how you are meant to be!
So first step, we create a positive strong empowering visualization, decide exactly what it is you want to create, what will this manifestation bring for you, what will it allow you to do, if its money, what will you do with the money? What sort of freedom will it bring? Do you think your joy will affect those around you? Of course it will! Think of all the things it will allow you to do and really feel the joy this brings!
Next, imagine you already have this thing that you desire, how do you feel? Really get into that feeling! You cannot help draw this to yourself when you really feel it, now write about it, in detail, if you have done this properly your words will just flow, if you cant write it then you haven’t felt it! Writing it all down is confirming your truth in your mind!
Now hold that feeling, that joy, and draw on it throughout the day, go back often to review the words you wrote, remind yourself of that feeling! Allow yourself to feel this joy, this is your right, your joy and you are making it real, know that it will be yours and you cannot fail to draw it to yourself!
Remember to be very clear about what you want, be careful what you ask for

So we have all heard about visualization, positive affirmation, meditation etc.. Do you believe in this? Can visualisation bring you happiness? Can it empower you, improve your health, increase your wealth and bring you your dreams? Is this just rubbish or only for people like Buddhists?
Well lets look further!
I believe happiness and fulfilment is our right and the power it involves is already within each of us right now! And I do believe that visualization can bring you happiness! It doesn’t mean you have to turn into some angelic type of being or religious in any way. We are all part of one energy, universal energy, you can call it God if you like or you could say we are all born again hippies! (hmmn) but the truth is this, deny it at your peril!
It takes most of us many, many years to realize our own powers, these days there is no time left to waste, the opportunities to learn, grow and prosper are here now and the sooner we get to grips with this the sooner we will heal our selves and our world. You see by growing and being who we truly want to be and living our lives in true happiness, we help all around us to grow as well!
Imagination or visualization is of the highest possible importance. Every great invention that we know of, every great sports man or woman and every great achiever has not only practised their performance, but mastered it through repeated visualization before it became materialized in their reality. Now you get it don’t you? You know the sort of visualization I am talking about, run it through your mind in perfection, really feel how it feels to win, and know that you will! Does that sound less fluffy? Of course it does!
So now do you get that you can use this, your power, to achieve your goals?
Most of us have lived in the dark for too long and believed we are not entitled to what others may have or maybe they were born different, what rubbish! We have lived with negativity for a long time! So it will also take time to turn this all around, but with daily practise you can achieve your dreams I can promise you that! Are you ready to take that leap forward? You have nothing to lose by trying this, but very much to lose by not trying it! So quit waiting and wishing like a wall flower, get going, create and design your life!

How Positive Habits Improve Your Life!

Did you know that habits are incredibly powerful tools for personal growth and success?
Think about the habits you have now and how they affect virtually every aspect of your life. Your weight and health are determined by your eating habits. Your relationships with people are determined by your social habits. Your success at work is determined by your work habits. You have sleeping habits that dictate how well you sleep. You have sexual habits. You even have buying habits; just take a look around your house and you will quickly see them. Our character, health and virtually every aspect of our lives are indeed determined by our habits.
If you ask ten people on the street what the word habit means, nine out of ten will tell you that a habit is a negative action that people do over and over again, like smoking, or procrastinating, or eating too much. Bad habits get all the press. Let’s look at the results of just one bad habit: smoking. Every year, over 400,000 people lose their lives to smoking-related illnesses in the United States. Imagine then, the negative power that exists in just that one bad habit. It is staggering!
Now I want you think about an even greater power, a power that can bring you success, health and happiness; a power for positive, permanent, and automatic personal growth: the power of positive habits. Let’s look a little closer at the meaning of the word habit. Random House dictionary defines habit in this way:
Habit: An acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary.
The important words in this definition are acquired and almost involuntary. Let me ask you a question. When is the last time you sat down and said to yourself, “Today I am going to add a new habit to my life?” I would venture to guess that you have probably never said those words. As you read this article, you will see how easy it is to add positive habits to your life and the great power they have to change it. Think about the words almost involuntary. This means the habit is so powerful in your mind that it is almost unstoppable! With respect to bad habits like smoking, procrastination, and overeating, this is very bad. But with positive habits, this is very, very good.
What is a positive habit? A positive habit is simply a habit that produces positive benefits, actions and attitudes you want to acquire and make a part of your life. Why is there such great power in positive habits to effect change? Because habits, by their very nature, are automatic. After a period of time they can become permanent.
So how do we go about adding new positive habits to our life? It’s really quite easy. You simply begin repeating an action, attitude or thought process every day for at least 21 days. Research has shown that an action that is repeated for a minimum of 21 days is likely to become a permanent habit. Remember that positive habits have positive benefits and you will reap those benefits for as long as you maintain that habit. So now that we know what positive habits are, and how to acquire them, let’s look at some simple positive habits from the book that will help you reach your goals and have a healthier body.
Positive Habit #53 – Make it a habit to set goals
Since we are talking about goals, what better habit could you have then the habit of setting goals? Did you know that the most successful people all share the common positive habit of goal setting? A study was done to determine the importance of goal setting. College students who had gone on to achieve great success in business were asked to list their habits. The students who had made a habit of setting goals were in the top 3% of earnings in the population! It is almost impossible to overestimate the value of goal-setting as a positive habit. Goal setting is simple, yet 97% of the population never do it. By making goal setting a positive habit, you can start placing yourself in the top 3% of the population of successful people.
Here are some simple steps to help you start making goal setting a positive habit:
Step 1 – Define your goals, write them down, and be very specific; capture your goals on paper. It is amazing how many people never take the time to write down exactly what it is they want in life. Remember, you can’t hit a target if you don’t have one.
Step 2 – Determine what the time line is for reaching your goals; set specific deadlines for each goal.
Step 3 – Identify any obstacles that may stand in your way, list them, and state how you plan to overcome them.
Step 4 – Make a list of the people and/or organizations who will help you reach your goals.
Positive Habit #3 – Take Flax Every Day for a Healthy, Trim Body and Lower Cholesterol!
What is flax?
Flax is a blue-flowering plant known for its oil-rich seed. People have been eating flaxseed since ancient times, it has a pleasant, nutty flavor. The health benefits of flaxseed and flaxseed oil are significant and for that reason this habit is recommended as a primary habit for health and a trim and fit body. Here are some of the benefits of flaxseed and flaxseed oil:
Flaxseed contains both soluble and insoluble fiber. Several studies have shown that flaxseed can help to lower cholesterol in the same way that other soluble fiber foods like oat bran and fruit pectin do. Several other studies have shown that in general, omega-3 fatty acids,lower lipid deposition, and help in reducing body weight.”
Omega-3 fatty acids — More than half the fat contained in flaxseed is omega-3 fatty acid type, an essential fatty acid. There have been numerous studies reporting the health benefits of consuming omega-3 fats. Recent studies suggest that omega-3 fatty acids which are abundant in flax seed can help protect you from coronary artery disease, stroke, high blood pressure, autoimmune and inflammatory disorders. Studies on the effects of flax seed on breast cancer are now under way. Omega-3s can also help boost your metabolism, helping your body to burn calories faster.
Flax is available as raw seed, ground seed and also as an oil which is made by cold pressing flax seeds. You can purchase raw flax seed, ground flax seed and flax seed oil at most health food stores. The easiest way to incorporate flax seed into your diet is to buy ground flax seed meal and add it to your food.
· Substitute for cooking oil or shortening in baked goods.
· Add ground flax seed to pancakes, waffles and cereals.
· Put ground flax seed on salads.

Free Radicals -What They Do To Your Health!![]()

So what do you know about free radicals? Do you know how they occur in the body? Do you know why they are damaging to the human body and your health?
Well we can get heavy into molecules and electrons here and have a major science lesson, but what we really need to understand is the basic facts; Why we create these damaging foreign bodies, how harmful are they to our health, and what do we need to do to help ourselves!
Not all free radicals are harmful to us, some are produced naturally during metabolism. If we have a virus or overload of bacteria, the immune system will create them to neutralize and attack the virus. However, environmental factors such as pollution – especially car fumes, radiation, cigarette smoke and herbicides can also spawn free radicals. If free radical production becomes excessive this is when damage can start to occur, the immune system will not be able to cope. Our bodies are biochemical battlegrounds! We can cope with normal production of free radicals, but as we age and take in more pollution, the system is overloaded and the immune system is under too much pressure. We now have all these, what I like to call bad soldiers, ………this is how I used to try to teach my young son “we need to make more good soldiers to kill the bad soldiers!”……….. hey it worked! Scott now 24, still refers to his good and bad soldiers! lol, So moving on swiftly, the bad soldiers are roaming around freely and in time, these groups of cells become mutated and cancerous, our body is now in dis-ease state!
This is the basic raw truth of it! I can hear you say, well years ago we did not hear our peers talking of chemical change and free radicals and they had no problems! Ok I hear you, but how do you know that they did not suffer? Of course they did, but they did not have the knowledge that we have available to us today given to us through extensive studies. It is our responsibility to work with that knowledge and do the best we can for our own and our children’s health! But you know what, their diet was pretty poor, everything over processed, but they didn’t have meat full of drugs! And pollution was not as rife as it is today.
If I were to say to you now, you can add another 10-20 years to your life if you have and use this knowledge, you would not ignore this would you?
Ok so lecture over, sorry I am passionate about this! So what do we do? How do we help ourselves? Well as with most things its easy when you know how! Firstly, the obvious thing is, if our body is strong, our immune system is strong and we eat a well balanced diet then we will create all the healthy cells we need to protect ourselves, however most of us these days live fast lives, we all work long hours, hence fast food and we don’t rest enough! Good rest is essential for our body to repair! And even when we try to eat fresh food, there is no guarantee that it is particularly good quality these day’s (understatement!) So what then ????
Antioxidants
Right, we need to have an adequate supply of antioxidants, these are our good soldiers and will neutralize and attack the bad soldiers (free radicals) we then help to prevent the risk of heart disease and strokes, and cancerous cells.
The three most powerful antioxidants are beta-carotene, vitamin C, and vitamin E.
Beta-carotene, is what gives many fruits their appearance. It also stimulates the release of natural killer cells (good soldiers), which hunt down and destroy cancer producing cells before they can do any damage. It only takes about 15 to 30 milligrams a day to stop these free radicals and destroy them. You can find beta-carotene in carrots, cantaloupes, sweet potatoes, spinach, and apricots.
Vitamin C, is the next powerful antioxidant. According to scientific studies at the University of California, those who took at least 66 milligrams of vitamin C every day, found their bodies to be free of any foreign antibodies! Vitamin C is found in fruits and vegetables such as citrus fruits, kiwi, potatoes, green and red peppers, carrots, spinach and apricots.(wash your fruit to rid skin of any pesticides, the skin is then very good)
Vitamin E, this is the most versatile antioxidant. This vitamin not only blocks free radicals, it also protects the body and its cells by stimulating the immune system. Because sugar is presently disguised in so many of our processed foods, we don’t realise that we are being influenced and obsessed by taste which can be so detrimental to our health. The food industry knows we are addicted and just keep adding more so we stay buying their crap, does this make you angry? It should! We are just piling it in there without realising!
The Sugar Industry tells us that as a carbohydrate, refined sugar is a natural source of energy required for everyday functioning. But do you realise, with each teaspoon of sugar we consume 15 calories, and we still need to consider all the rest of sugar’s negative effects on our health.
Scientists and researches are becoming increasingly concerned about our rising consumption of sugar! No it doesn’t just make you fat, Sugar addiction is killing you! Don’t just listen to me, please do your own research for yourself, there are hundreds of respected sites out there with good information, once you understand and get it into your head how bad this is it will be much easier to control!
I am not suggesting you never again eat chocolate or sugary deserts, that’s your choice, but do it in awareness, I am asking you to figure out for yourself how addicted to sugar you are? Then if you want the sugar you have decided in your own mind, not brainwashed and lied to! If you decide to kick this sugar addiction, then there are many ways to help, there are some amazing herbs out there that can help curb the cravings. Don’t be fooled by synthetic replacements like coffee and tea sweeteners, they are just as bad if not worse! (ok another article coming on)
Excuse me being on my soap box, I just get so cross that we are constantly lied to, shown adverts of healthy beautiful people eating pure rubbish and leading us to believe it is good for us! I am all for freedom of choice, but I want to make that choice, don’t you? The food industry is more interested in their sales than the fact that they are poisoning their fellow man, and then they add insult to injury by showing us their annual statistics on how well they are doing! They are so clever!
I am thankful that this subject is high on the media agenda right now, I am hoping that we all take heed and get rid if this habit, stop being brainwashed by the food industry and super markets, stop the sugar addiction and recover our health!
To have education and knowledge means you are ahead in the game putting you in a position where you can take control of your life instead of others having that power! Please take care of you, research for yourself, take your control back be healthy be whole, make your own decisions:)

Two Flat Stomach Secrets For Women

Have you tried everything under the sun to get a flat stomach, only to come up disappointed? Have you fallen prey to all the gimmicks, fad diets and shameless infomercials promising you that elusive flat stomach that you desire?
Well fret no more, I’m going to let you in on the two ‘secrets’ that will help you shed unwanted fat and reveal your toned, flat stomach once and for all.
The first secret for a flat stomach is eating supportively. While this doesn’t seem like a secret at all, most women get this wrong in spite of their best – but misguided – efforts. Women have fallen prey to low-fat, low-carb, Hollywood, grapefruit, South Beach and every other over hyped diet that marketers can dream up, all in hopes of shedding those unwanted pounds. But eating supportively is isn’t about dieting or deprivation; it’s about moderation and balance. While cutting carbs or fats out of your nutrition plan might give you a temporary loss of a couple of pounds, it’s typically followed by a drop in metabolism and a weight gain of more than you lost in the first place once you go back to your old eating habits.
So what is eating supportively? Eating supportively is having protein and carbohydrates at every meal. It’s grazing on 4-6 meals or snack each day instead of missing meals and then gorging yourself. It’s enjoying a healthy breakfast and not drinking your calories. But most of all, eating supportively is enjoying the foods you love in moderation instead of in excess.
If eating supportively is the first secret to a flat stomach, then what’s the second? The second flat stomach secret is resistance training. Unfortunately, just as fad diets have stood in the path of women achieving the flat stomachs they so desired, so have the myths of spot reduction and cardio being the best method for fat loss. Late night infomercials have long promoted gadgets that promised to spot reduce those trouble spots that women struggle with and sucked us in with testimonials from fitness models that undoubtedly picked up a nifty paycheck for endorsing their wares. But spot reduction is a myth. Think about it – have you ever met someone with a flat stomach and fat arms? Didn’t think so. If spot reduction was possible then undoubtedly one of these happy customers would have toned and tightened their stomach, yet kept their flabby arms.
The other myth that has led women astray is the belief that cardio is the best solution for fat loss. Treadmill manufacturers have sold the virtues of the ‘fat burning zone’ and led us to believe that we could plod along on a treadmill watching Oprah and before long a flat stomach would be ours. These two myths have diverted us from the path of what really does work – resistance training. Resistance training is a flat stomach’s best friend because not only does an effective resistance training session burn plenty of calories while you’re doing it, but it keeps you’re metabolism revved long after you’re done. One recent study showed that you’re metabolism would stay elevated for over 36 hours after a resistance training session.
Try to get that out of an aerobics class.
And there’s another benefit of resistance training when it comes to getting a flat stomach. The lean muscle that you gain will raise you’re resting metabolic rate and help you burn more fat all day long, each and every day.
There you have it, two ‘secrets’ that are guaranteed to boost your metabolism and give you that flat stomach you’ve been longing for. So ditch the diet books and the aerobics classes and start eating supportively and resistance training. Before long that flat stomach will finally be yours.

Can you control your appetite? Well understanding it is half way there!
An appetite is only a function of the mind, if there is a sensation in the stomach, this is to tell us that the last meal has been completely digested and we are ready for more. This is genuine hunger, your appetite on the other hand is completely different and can be stimulated many ways!
The stomach could be full and satisfied, but imagine going past a bakery and smelling the fresh baked bread, or you just had a salad for lunch and you walk past a chip shop! You could eat right? Tell me your mouth doesn’t water! An appetite trigger could be as simple as reading about food or planning a meal, not fair is it? But this is a fall down for us, we must avoid these whims if we want to stay slim and more importantly healthy!
Ok next we get into emotions, right now we have really had it! Stress anxiety, shock, depression……… This means disaster! Lets look at Joe Bloggs, who is the bread winner of the family, he is pushing his meal away not wanting to eat as he is overwhelmed with worry and concerned about where the next penny is coming from and how he will pay the bills, and then his wife Mrs Bloggs, now she is full of the same worry but she is comfort eating and piling on the pounds and trying not to look worried at all! Then of course we have the teeny Bloggs, Jenny is living on love alone apart from the odd lettuce leaf, (remember that one?) and Joe junior is only interested in chips and ketchup at eleven o’clock at night, he may have scoffed the odd packet of crisps but, well he was too busy to think of food during the day!
Healthy lot aren’t we? So do you think this is over the top? Let me tell you, there are many families who live this way, but my point here was to express the emotional reasons for eating habits! The thing is, these are all natural behavioural disturbances, and ok as long as they are short lived!
We must listen to our bodies more and be honest with ourselves! Why are we eating what we are eating? Are we creating habits? Or is it just a faze? It is important for us to learn stress control, and educate ourselves about the needs of our body. Our bodies carry us around all day, working hard to support us,
and is dependent on the fuel and nutrition we give it. To eat when we are not hungry is asking the body to work even harder! And to not supply it with food is asking too much!
The Best 16-Minute Workout EVER
When Jon Benson wrote “7 Minute Muscle” and “7 Minute Body” (the in-home version; both books come in the same package) I thought he was doing the muscle-mass crowd a huge favor.
I was right… and I was wrong.
I was right because the 7MM-style training has put serious muscle shape, tone, and size on people from all ages.
I was WRONG because it did more than just add lean muscle:
THIS makes people THINNER…

Yep: the workout Jon intended people to use for building muscle turned into one of the fastest ways to melt body fat.
Weird.
The secret is density training.
Density is basically getting the most amount of work done in the least amount of time. More work in less time = more energy.
More energy spent = greater fatloss.
Fatloss (and muscle-shaping) is not an issue of length of time as much as it is an issue of work divided by time.
The body was made to perform in bursts, not in long bouts. This is why our immediate fuel sources (which come mostly from carbohydrates) are WAY too efficient… so much so that we store incredible amounts of fat from consuming too many of the “fast-fuel” foods.
The best way to combat this fat-storing problem is to use your body the way it was designed to be used: In bursts of fat-burning power that are intense, short, and highly focused.
That’s the basics behind density training.

Want a practical example? Great… let’s look at a 7 Minute Muscle chest workout followed by a 7 Minute Muscle “GXP” Cardio workout.
Your total workout time: A whopping 16 minutes.
That’s “TOTAL” workout and cardio time, minus a short warm-up.
After your warm-up, you would start with the first of two “Phases”:
The first 5 minutes is called The Power Phase.
This is followed by The Mass Phase (Mass is for adding lean muscle) which last only 2 minutes.
During the Power Phase, your weight you select for any movement (from a bench press to a push-up) stays the same. This makes it very easy to shorten your rest intervals between sets.
Your repetitions will be a maximum of 5 for your Power Phase using a weight that’s about 60% of your normal 5-rep max. You will rest as little as possible between sets.
The first few sets will feel light, but as time progresses this “light” weight will become more and more challenging. In fact you will drop your repetitions down quite low in order to complete the 5-minute Phase… and that’s GOOD.
That’s what we want: As many repetitions as you can get during 5 minutes, but never exceeding FIVE repetitions, during your Power Phase.
Your rest intervals are up to YOU… you can rest a short or as long as you need.
This is a very creative and personal workout!
Your goal is simple: Get more TOTAL reps (called “Aggregate Repetitions”, or “AR”) than your previous workout.
This is what makes 7 Minute Muscle so unique: The progression is built-in.
Most people fail to progress in the gym because they simply do not track their workouts carefully enough.
With 7 Minute Muscle you don’t have to track an entire workout: Only ONE number. The total number of repetitions, or your “AR”.
Simple!
Your Power Phase for a chest workout may look like this:
EXERCISE:
Incline Machine Press (upper chest)
5 reps (rest 20 seconds)
5 reps (rest 15 seconds)
4 reps (rest 20 seconds)
3 reps (rest 30 seconds)
3 reps (rest 30 seconds)
1 rep (rest 20 seconds)
1 rep (end)
Total AR: 22 reps
Total Time: 5 minutes
Your goal next time is to get 23 repetitions using the same weight. Once you can get 5 repetitions every set it’s time to increase the weight for this movement.
You would then move to your Mass Phase (2 minutes) which would be a different chest exercise for TEN repetitions.
Same goal, same principles apply… beat your previous AR.
The end result is a 7-minute workout that shapes your chest AND burns a lot of fat due to the principles of time/energy expenditure and the fact that muscle burns calories.

You end your 7 minute workout with “GXP” Cardio. This is 9 minutes long… that’s it! But your body is primed to melt off a lot of fat after your 7 minutes of intense weight training… and you will drop the fat if you do this workout right.
You start with 3 minutes on the exercise device of your choice (I prefer the treadmill.)
You work your way up to 85-90% of your maximum heart rate, or a perceived exertion rate on a scale of 1-10 of 7 to 8. No more is needed to get the desired results.
You stay at this level for just 3 minutes.
Then you cool down for 3 minutes.
That’s IT.
That’s your entire cardio workout and weight-training workout… all in 16 minutes (about 20 with a warm-up.)
And you will progress faster, burn a lot more fat, and save SO much time you may have to take up a new hobby!

It’s time to get rid of your wings ladies…
Before I go any further, I have to tell you about Marty Web.
Marty looked like … well, your typical 59-year-old housewife. Actually she looked a bit worse.
She was a good 80 pounds over her ideal bodyweight. And she had her wings…
… big time wings. Loads of arm flab.
That was at age 59.
At age 61… wow. Different story.
Marty transformed her body to such a degree that even I could have never guessed she was an OUNCE overweight!

Marty replaced her “wings” with toned, beautiful arms. And you can too.
She has two pages in Fit Over 40… too much to cover in an email… but here’s the basics to get you started:
1. You have to get your nutrition down pat. Most people think that the flab on their arms (or anywhere for that matter) can be solved by “turning it into muscle.”
This is not true folks. Fat does not turn into “anything”. It is used for energy. Period.
Muscle is muscle. Fat is fat.
You must use low-insulin nutrition like I recommend in all my books, including Fit Over 40, to lower your bodyfat. For ladies, the back-of-the-arm bodyfat is often the last bit to go.
But I promise — it will go. I can go for anyone. Marty Web and dozens of other ladies in Fit Over 40 prove that in living color… and they share how they did it.
Low-insulin nutrition means eating more protein-rich foods, foods that are not processed, and plenty of tasty veggies. But it does not mean you cannot have your pizza and burgers here and there. I do every week and my bodyfat is low.
2. You must train your triceps. The back of the arm is made of three muscles called the “triceps”. You have a long head, a medial head and a lateral head that form the triceps muscle group.
If you cannot access a gym, you can do plain-old pushups to work all three heads of the triceps. Here’s a few tips. First, if you cannot do a pushup with your legs straight, start by doing them on your knees. Work up to straight-legged pushups.
Second, do one third of your reps with your hands facing away from your body, one third with your hands facing toward your body (fingers pointing toward you) and the final third with your hands in the “normal” pushup position, facing the same direction as your body. This will work the various heads nicely.

3. Finally, you have to have a role model. Find someone like Marty who has lost their wings and use their success to inspire you.
Put these three things together and you too will be “grounded” — wingless, but with a lovely pair of arms that never jiggle and look fantastic.

The treatments I am going to tell you about here are natural treatments that you can do yourself at home if you wish and they wont cost the earth! Body brushing and Massaging with oils will drain the lymphatic system and tighten the skin, this along with a good diet and exercise will seriously change the appearance of cellulite, your shape and your skin!
Ok so firstly, we have to be honest here, if you are not prepared to make changes to your diet & lifestyle on a long term basis, then don’t waste your time with this, seriously if you are going to eat rubbish not exercise and just sit on your butt watching TV, then this aint gonna help! However if you are willing to put some serious effort in you can make an amazing difference to your body and more importantly to your long term health in a very short time!
So then, we have heard all the stuff about whether cellulite is regular fat or not and I have addressed this in other writings, the point is we need to do something to help the situation, my attitude is try anything and keep a close eye on how your body responds, if it seems to be working for you great if not don’t give up we are all made up in different ways so try something else but I can promise you with effort this works! Our bodies are not designed for a sedentary life, we are built to move! Bisk walking and swimming are recommended for cellulite on hips and thighs. Your diet must be sensible and you must exercise, these methods just simply wont work unless you take the holistic approach, ideally your body needs to be at an ideal weight for any specific treatment to work but if you take an all round approach this will certainly help.
Body brushing is amazing, so you have been for a brisk morning walk (fantastic for your legs) if you have put effort in here just look at your thighs in the mirror, they will be glowing red with the circulation of blood & oxygen, fantastic! Before you take your regular shower, take a dry body brush and use long sweeping strokes starting from the bottom of your feet upwards, from the hands towards the shoulders, and on the torso in an upward direction, this helps to drain the lymph back to your heart, this should take around 10 minutes. Next at the end of your shower alternate the water from hot to cold, repeat 3 times to stimulate the circulation some more (you will be very awake) Next dry off vigorously and massage your skin with some good oils, recommended oils are as follows: geranium and rosemary, alternated the next day with fennel and juniper, add these to a base oil, or buy a specially prepared oil for cellulite, better still have a good aroma therapist prepare one for you. try to drink fennel tea, and stick to salads fruit and veg as much as possible. You need to follow this regime for at least 5 months, preferably make it a way of life!

Tightens the skin, tones the muscles, stimulates circulation, removes dead skin cells, improves the function of the nervous system and improves digestion, to top that the skin is beautifully soft! You will be amazed at how you feel and how your skin feels!
